Description
I present to you Lake 22, a 50 ft. deep lake located on the north side of Mt. Pilchuck in the North Cascades Mountains of Western Washington, Mt. Baker Snoqualmie National Forest. Access to the lake is through a 5.3 mile round-trip hike that starts at a 1000 ft. and ascends through a forest of ancient towering red cedars, western hemlocks and silver firs to a maximum elevation of 2400 ft. above sea level.
I decided to do this hike on the first day of my Seattle trip, since I had attempted to do it three years ago, but had to cut it short due to my companion's bad fitness shape. Frustrated for 3 years, I was determined this time to complete the ascend! Lugging 20 lbs. of photographic gear, I traversed through the forest following Lake 22 creek and its succession of waterfalls until I arrived at the magnificent cirque that encompasses the lake. The air was moist and cool, but the sweat and the rain made it colder! Of course any relief from the Summer Texas heat of my hometown I was willing to welcome. Enjoy this panorama!
